New reserves have to be found and developed in ultradeepwaters. Countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, The Philippines, India and Australia have made early moves and have projects entering the development phase. Malaysia’s first deepwater development, the Kikeh field operated by Murphy Oil, is now in production. Sabah Shell Petroleum Company and ConocoPhillips are developing the Gumusut-Kakap field, offshore Sabah. In India, the first deepwater field development has began at Reliance’s world-class gas discovery in the Krishna-Godavari Basin, where the state – owned ONGC and GSPC have also major gas discoveries awaiting development. Elsewhere, in Australia, there are several deepwater field development projects such as the giant Pluto project. All these projects require technologies and expertise. Currently available technologies will require a makeover, borrowing from the experiences of the North Sea or Gulf of Mexico projects and adapting them to meet Asian requirements: witness the Kikeh Spar. The Asian deepwater capex, which is way below the world average, is expected to catch up by 2010. Simultaneously a broad range of opportunities for the deepwater technology providers is being born. We cordially invite companies involved in the areas of deepwater and subsea development -- Deepwater Installation, Engineering and Fabrication, Subsea Equipment, New Technology -- to send in their abstract of up to 600 words for consideration by the technical program committee. The following topics may also be considered: Abstracts of papers on any of the subjects mentioned above are being actively solicited although other topics of equal interest will also be considered. The abstract should reach us before 3rd october 2009 together with a photograph and the biodata of the author. Abstracts may either be submitted via email or online.
