0222 Emerson Enhances Rosemount 3051 to Help Users Gain Control Over Budget, Reduce Maintenance and Increase Productivity
Emerson Process Management has introduced a significant number of enhancements to its Rosemount 3051 Pressure products to help users maximize operational control by reducing total cost of ownership and maintenance work orders, while improving productivity and safety.
The first of the enhanced Rosemount 3051 capabilities is a standard reference accuracy of ±0.04% of span down to a 10:1 turndown. This improvement drives the total performance in typical operating conditions to a best-in-class ±0.12% of span. The improved performance of the Rosemount 3051 allows for the plants’ operations to run closer to set levels, increasing product quality and throughput with more accurate control.
The most innovative feature, Power Advisory Diagnostics, is a predictive diagnostic that allows
users to identify electrical loop issues before they cause a loss of measurement, whether at the
instrument or anywhere in the loop. Examples of issues include water or corrosion in the terminal
block or junction boxes, wiring issues or even a failing power supply. With simple three step
activation and guided troubleshooting, users of all experience levels can easily implement this
diagnostic to help prevent costly outages and minimize time diagnosing and resolving the root
cause of a measurement issue.
As part of Emerson’s commitment to making interfaces easy, it has added a Local Operator
Interface (LOI) to the Rosemount 3051 designed with straightforward menus and both internal and
external configuration buttons for on the spot commissioning – even in hazardous area locations.
Standardizing on the 3051 with LOI for pressure, DP flow and DP level applications results in
simplified, consistent configuration procedures, reducing investment in maintenance tools, training
and overall costs of ownership.
Understanding that users want stability in their systems and operations, Emerson has launched
the enhanced Rosemount 3051 Pressure products with Selectable HART Revision capability
(HART5 and HART7) to deliver the latest features to those that are ready to take advantage of the latest HART revision while ensuring seamless integration with any installed host, asset
management system or configuration tool.
The Rosemount 3051 now offers SIL2 certification that meets the most demanding safety
application requirements, extending time between proof tests to five years – allowing users to
avoid extra shutdowns for safety testing. Emerson also provides full documentation for efficient
SIS compliance. Users can add Power Advisory Diagnostics to SIL2 certified transmitters to
improve safety throughout their entire electrical loop.

0211 Belden presents new profibus dp connectors from its range of Lumberg Automation™ products
Belden has extended its range of Lumberg Automation™ products to include new Profibus DP connectors. These connectors each have a D-Sub and M12 interface, and are offered with 35°, 90° or 180° cable outlets. All versions support data rates of up to 12 Mbit/s and feature a compact die-cast zinc housing with test socket and activatable terminating resistor. They also boast quick-connection technology that enables Profibus DP devices to be connected with M12 Profibus cord sets simply and securely without the use of tools. The advantage of this, for example, is reduced downtimes of machinery and equipment when faults occur, increasing production efficiency.
The connectors meet the requirements for degree of protection IP30 and are suitable for use in temperature ranges from -20° to +70°C. The following housing dimensions (height x width x depth) are available: 59 x 45 x 16.8 mm for 35° cable outlets, 68 x 42 x 16.8 mm for 90° cable outlets, and 84.8 x 35.6 x 16.8 mm for 180° cable outlets. A special shielding geometry and die-cast zinc housing ensure error- and loss-free data transmission.
The 9-pole D-Sub interfaces of the male and female connectors can be used to connect, for instance, high-level control systems, decentralized I/O stations, programming units or diagnostic devices. The B-coded M12 interfaces serve as a Profibus input or output. What is more, the signals can be daisy-chained via the output.
The terminating resistor of the connectors can be activated via a slide switch, with the respective status being indicated both through the position of the switch and through green and red color coding on the housing. In addition, an external Profibus terminating resistor can be attached to the Profibus out port.
The new Profibus DP connectors from Belden’s Lumberg Automation™ product range not only enable fast and secure data transmission, but also tool-free installation. “This is why it is possible to use M12 Profibus cord sets, for example from Lumberg Automation™,” explains Product Manager Robert Strehmann and adds: “The shielding therefore no longer has to be attached manually, something that often leads to errors.”

LESER introduces pilot-operated safety valve for oil & gas, petrochemical and pump applications
In August 2010, LESER (www.leser.com) will introduce a new product series: the pilot-operated safety valve. Both pop-action valves (Series 810) and modulate-action valves (Series 820) are available.
The typical application areas of the pilot-operated safety valve (POSV) are refineries and gas processing plants, compressors in gas pipeline systems and offshore applications. The own-media-controlled POSV offers the advantage that the plant can be run close to the set pressure of the valve. This leads to an increase in the capacity utilization and consequently of the efficiency of the plant. Furthermore, POSVs allow higher external back pressures than spring-loaded valves.
By means of the harmonized standard DIN EN ISO 4126-4 pilot-operated safety valves are now also approved in Europe. For decades already their technology has been proven in the American market and in the Middle East.
The LESER POSV will be with a short four-week lead time ex works in Germany. As a special design feature, the tubing between the pilot valve and the main valve is integrated in the main valve cover, reducing the risk of damage or freezing. The backflow preventer is included as standard.
The POSV will be part of the new LESER product group High Efficiency. This group unites all products which increase the efficiency and the productivity of the plant.
Features at a glance:
- Design in compliance with API 526
- Valve sizes from DN 25 to DN 200 (1" x 2" to 8" x 10")
- Orifice D to T
- Flange pressure ranges according to DIN EN PN 10 - PN 63 (DIN EN), 2.5 bar – 63 bar (36 psig – 914 psig)
- Flange pressure ranges according to ASME CL 150 – CL 600, 36 psig – 1480 psig (2,5 bar – 102 bar)
- Approval according to ASME VIII, PED and Vd TÜV for first shipments
- Body materials WCB, CF8M, LCB, 1.0619, 1.4408
Advantages at a glance:
- Tightness guaranteed up to 97% of set pressure – operating pressure can be close to set pressure
- Short blowdown for minimum product loss in case of valve opening
- Lower risk of damage due to a reduction of the exterior piping
- Backflow preventer included as standard
- Fast availability: four weeks delivery time ex works
- Free sizing software VALVESTAR

Typical Class: #150, #300, #600 & #1500
Temperature Range: -46º C (-50º F) to +204º C (+400ºF)
Lokring is a THE mechanical weld equivalent pipe solution that doesn’t require hot work. Fittings are rapid to install and are qualified to ASME B31.1 & B31.3 as well as Lloyds Type Approval. It is a proven solution within the Process Industry and provides significant reductions in total installation costs.
Elastic Strain Preload (ESP) Technology…
During installation, the axial movement of the LOKRING™ driver
over the fitting body swages the body onto the pipe surface, compressing the pipe wall first elastically and then plastically. The pipe wall resists this swaging action, generating high unit compressive loads at the contact points between narrow sealing lands inside the fitting body and the pipe surface.
These contact stresses are sufficiently high to plastically yield the
pipe surface under the multiple sealing lands, forming a 360 degree circumferential, permanent, metal-to metal seal between the pipe and fitting body. The driver, which experiences a small increase in diameter (elastic strain) during installation, exerts an elastic, radial pre-load on the metallic seals for the life of the connection.
